The Colca and Cotahuasi Canyons, shaped by the erosive action of rivers making their way between great mountain massifs of the volcanic region in the north-east of Peru"s department of Arequipa, are the deepest ones on earth. The region has a great number of natural attractions such as impressive rock formations, waterfalls and thermal springs. On the other hand, the thousand-year-old andean culture become visible in countless archaeological remains, colonial style churches, as well as the characteristic terraces of cultivation. Here, the vsistor finds a place slightly off the beaton track, ideal for practising trekking or adventure sports.
